I spent my holiday at Batam yesterday. It is not my first trip there, but I did discover new things. Upon arrival, our guide, Ah Hong picked us up. He is an especially punctual chap and there is this air of innocence in him. Something that I realised is found in a lot on people on that island of Batam. They are so untainted by the scary society that we live in.
We kicked off the trip by going to Nagoya Hill for my
har gao (shrimp wrapped in a thin layer of skin made from flour) fix. We had way too much food and as usual, the highlight was the raddish cake that was served. It was so soft inside, unlike those that I have in Singapore. Somehow, the food didn't really meet my expectations this time around, but they were still nice.
We then proceeded to a Polo shop which we quickly left and headed towards a spa. Now, this spa, located in Triniti Hotel was pretty disappointing. The rates were low, but it was not really a spa. I asked for a "Luxurious Milk Bath" hoping to experience what Cleopatra went through, but much to my disappointment, I had almost no milk in my tub. For the amount I was paying, I could have gone to the supermarket to get myself three litres of milk and I would have felt better. The massage was ok, but not as great as the one I had at
Citra Serhat (CS) on my last visit and CS charged only S$10 for 90 mins. Here at Triniti, I paid 160000 rupiah (50k for milk bath, 30k for room use and 80k for massage), but I left not feeling recharged. The company was great however. I always make it a point to try to travel with people I like and can live with, for they make the trip better.
At 7pm, we left for dinner at an outdoor food area, had a crab (48k rupiah), rice (5k rupiah) and some vegetables(15k rupiah) for 68000 rupiah. This was for 2 pax, so you do the math. We rushed to catch our ferry back to Singapore, not before squeezing in time to buy half a dozen donuts (and no, I didn't have to queue for donuts). All in all, a good trip with great company, but more research to be done the next time.
